This Baseball Hall of Fame recipient enlisted during World War II but did not see any combat.  When the Korean War started he was recalled for military duty.  He flew 39 combat missions and had a few close calls.  Williams was awarded with three air medals and was able to return to his first love, “Baseball”.

Johnny Cash served 4 years in the Air Force during the Korean War.  He served in West Germany as a high-speed Morse Code intercept operator, monitoring transmissions from the Soviet Army.

John Glenn enlisted when the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor, but was never called to duty during World War II.  That changed when the Korean War started, he was assigned to a Marine Squadron and flew 90 combat missions. It was reported that he returned from two of those missions with 250 holes on his airplane.  Glenn also is known for the three enemy MiG-15s that he shot down.

One of the first men on the moon on Apollo 11, Aldrin was a fighter pilot during the Korean War.  He received the Distinguished Flying Cross for the downing of two Soviet-made MiGs.

Garner claimed to have been the first Oklahoman drafted into the Korean War.  Injured in two separate incidents, he received a Purple Heart for each.

McMahon’s military career started as World War II ended, but he was called to active duty when the Korean War started. He flew 85 combat missions and earned six air medals.

“That's one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind.” said Armstrong as the first man that walked the moon in 1969.

In Korea this pilot flew 78 combat missions and earned three air medals.
